Incurvaria praelatella

B&F: 0132

ABH: 8.004

Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance:  Scarce

Primary Habitat:  Woodland, especially clearings

Wingspan:  11-14mm

Flight Period:  May - June

Observations: The larva mines the leaves of Wild Strawberry and other roseaceous plants. Eustace Wallis notes that this species was "common" at the turn of the Twentieth Century, but there is a paucity of modern records. It seems to be quite widespread and common in the UK, so further records could be obtained by targeted fieldwork for both adults and larvae.

Confusion Species:

L.O.N.:  Common in woods during June. Flies readily at sun-down.

First Record:  1905, Wallis
