Lampronia morosa

B&F: 0137

ABH: 9.004

Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Woodland, gardens, hedgerows

Wingspan:  12-15mm

Flight Period:  May - June, August

Observations:  The larva feeds internally in the shoots of Rose. There are very few county records, probably due to it's diminutive size and that the adult flies on sunny mornings (up to approx 11am reportedly) and again in the late afternoon. I netted many at an out-of-county site in the late evening, yet had none in the adjacent moth traps overnight. Further records might also be gathered by searching for the bright red larvae in spinnings on Dog Rose.
