  The Festoon Apoda limacodes

B&F: 0173

ABH: 53.001

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Local.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in July.

Localities: Short Wood, Fineshade, Collyweston Great Wood and Whitewater Reservoir.

Observations: The species appears to be almost entirely restricted to the Rockingham Forest woodland in northeast Northamptonshire. In my experience it is only seen in small numbers at light and then almost always only the males attend. On 15 June 2002, five were taken at light in Bedford Purlieus, which is one of the best localities for the moth in the county.

L.O.N.: Undated. Bedford Purlieus. Scarce.

First Record: 1902, Victoria County History.
