Sterrhopterix fusca

B&F: 0195

ABH: 11.018

Status:  Unknown

Distribution/Abundance:  Unconfirmed

Primary Habitat:  Grassland

Wingspan:  18-25mm (males)

Flight Period:  May - June

Observations:  Meyrick states in his "A Handbook of British Lepidoptera", published in 1895, that the species was present in VC32. However, this entry is not supported by any further locational data, and with no date of capture (as was often the case at that time). A possible sighting was made of a larval case at Old Sulehay in January 2013. The identification was noted at the time as "tentative" by the Micro-moth CMR at the time, but that it would require rearing through to confirm identification. Sadly the larvae did not thrive and thus remained unconfirmed - and the map opposite is included for information only. Larvae feed on a variety of plant material, possibly including grasses. The adult females of this species are wingless and remain partly within the old pupal case when they emerge.

Confusion Species: Other Psychidae - putative examples must be reared and retained for identification

L.O.N.:  N/A

First Record:  Unconfirmed
