Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Generalised

Wingspan:  8-15mm

Flight Period:  June - August

Observations:  The species appears to either be quite rare in the UK, or very under-recorded. The larvae feed on animal and vegetable detritus primarily in birds nests in tree holes or wooden nest boxes, pigeon and poultry houses. They have also been reported indoors. Adults come to light.

Confusion Species: Tinea pellionella; T. dubiella - dissection strongly advised to confirm ID
