Status:  Unknown

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare - no modern records

Primary Habitat:  Woodland, hedgerows

Wingspan:  10-12mm

Flight Period:  September onwards, reappearing in spring

Observations: The larva forms a cone in the leaves of Sycamore and possibly Field Maple. Only a single record exists for this nationally rare species, being from 1864. In The Moths & Butterflies of Great Britain & Ireland, Vol. 2, it is recorded that Stainton stated the species "had been formerly not uncommon in Whittlebury Forest". Confirmed specimens do exist in the Bankes and Ford collections which may be from this locality (all are without data labels), but all subsequent UK records (where specimens are available) have been examined and discounted as mis-identifications.
