  Sallow Clearwing Synanthedon flaviventris

B&F: 0377

ABH: 52.009

Status: Resident

Distribution and Abundance: Scarce

Primary Habitat: Damp woodland, river-sides

Flight Period: Single brooded in June and July

Observations: The caterpillar of this species feeds internally on Sallows, forming a distinctive swelling. The life-cycle takes two years to complete and thus the adults are best seen in even years. With the advent of a specific pheromone lure, the adult was first recorded in 2020, with it being seen in numbers at several sites, suggesting that this has been overlooked and likely to be more widespread throughout VC32

Attracted to artificial lure SAL - best time 11am to 6pm

L.O.N.: N/A

First Record: 2020, Laney
