Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Woodland, Hedgerows, Scrub

Wingspan:  9-11mm

Flight Period:  May - June

Observations:  Case-bearing larvae feed on many different trees and shrubs, with an apparent preference for Rosacaea (especially Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Apple, Rowan, Whitebeam and Dog Rose). The adult flies during the day and occasionally attends light traps, but can be most easily recorded to the Ni Moth pheromone lure. For those moths recorded in lure traps, the distinctive pale tips to the antennae is a strong indicator of this speices.

Confusion Species:  Most members of the Coleophoridae family are notoriously difficult to positively identify as adults unless the recorder is particularly skilled. Best identified either from the larval case/foodplant, or by examination of adult genitalia.
