Coleophora conyzae

B&F: 0521

ABH: 37.036

Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Wasteground, Grassland

Wingspan:  12-16mm

Flight Period:  June - July

Observations:  Case-bearing larvae feed on Ploughman's Spikenard and Common Fleabane. Only a single record exists for this Nationally Scarce species, taken by James Skinner at Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens (SP77), 17.vii.2013. Identification was complicated by the fact that the male gen. det. figure in MBGBI Vol 3 is incorrect.

Confusion Species:  Most members of the Coleophoridae family are notoriously difficult to positively identify as adults unless the recorder is particularly skilled. Best identified either from the larval case/foodplant, or by examination of adult genitalia.

L.O.N.:  N/A

First Record:  2013, Skinner.
