Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Woodland

Wingspan:  11-15mm

Flight Period:  July - August

Observations:  Case-bearing larvae feed on Hawthorn and Apple. One of the more recognisable species in this group the adult having a large black spot on the grey forewings. Few modern records. 24.vii.2010 - taken at MV light by James Skinner at Sunderland Wood, Kelmarsh Estate (SP77).

Confusion Species:  Most members of the Coleophoridae family are notoriously difficult to positively identify as adults unless the recorder is particularly skilled. Best identified either from the larval case/foodplant, or by examination of adult genitalia.
