Coleophora albicosta

B&F: 0544

ABH: 37.063

Status:  Unknown

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Woodland

Wingspan:  14mm

Flight Period:  June - July

Observations:  Case-bearing larvae feed on Gorse. There are very few records of this species, perhaps indicative of the relative sparcity of the foodplant in the Vice County. Worth searching Gorse during sunny days for further records of the adult, or for larval spinnings in May.

Confusion Species:  Most members of the Coleophoridae family are notoriously difficult to positively identify as adults unless the recorder is particularly skilled. Best identified either from the larval case/foodplant, or by examination of adult genitalia.

L.O.N.:  Near Kettering, 30.v.1909

First Record:  1909, Wallis.
