Coleophora inulae

B&F: 0554

ABH: 37.098

Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Grassland, Woodland rides

Wingspan:  13-16mm

Flight Period:  June - July, two-year life-cycle

Observations:  Case-bearing larvae feed on the leaves of Fleabane and Ploughman's Spikenard. The generally scarce species appears to have quite a disjointed distribution, with scattered colonies as far north as Derbyshire. Best looked for by finding the larvae/cases on the foodplant.

Confusion Species:  Most members of the Coleophoridae family are notoriously difficult to positively identify as adults unless the recorder is particularly skilled. Best identified either from the larval case/foodplant, or by examination of adult genitalia.

L.O.N.:  N/A

First Record:  2026, Hammond, M.
