Cnephasia genitalana

  B&F: 1023

ABH: 49.054

Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance:  Local

Primary Habitat:  Grassland

Wingspan:  15-20mm

Flight Period:  July - August

Observations:  Very likely under-recorded in VC32. Demonstrated by genitalia dissection of samples of Cnephasia species in one Thrapston garden (2018-2019) this was one of the most frequent Cnephasia visitors to the light traps. Larvae feed on the flowers of a range of herbaceous plants, such as Ragwort, Buttercup, Knapweed and Ox-eye Daisy. Identification of adults based on size and wing markings alone is unreliable, thus genitalia examination is required for certainty.

Confusion Species:  Other Cnephasia species

L.O.N.:  N/A

First Record:  1999, Lowe
