Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance: Local

Primary Habitat:  Woodland, hedgerows

Wingspan:  10-12mm

Flight Period:  March - early May

Observations:  The adults appear to be rarely encountered by using traditional methods (light trapping, etc), and this species was thus believed to be fairly rare. Use of pheromone lures has shown the moth to be much more widespread. The adult males appear to attend some lures in quite high numbers, either when these are deployed by day or if left over-night. Best lures to use are: MOL (Grapholita molesta), FUN (Grapholita funebrana) and SKI (Grapholita lobarzewski). Adults attended each of these three lures in more or less equal numbers in Fermyn Woods on the afternoon of 20th March 2021. Larvae feed within the spongy galls on Oak (made by Hymenoptera).
