Status:  Resident

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Dry grassland, wasteground, playing fields etc

Wingspan:  20-30mm

Flight Period:  July - August, occasionally 2nd brood in September in hot years

Observations:  Larvae feed between September and May the following year within a silken tube on various grasses such as Sheeps Fescue. Like it's congeners, adults can be kicked-up from grasses by day, but do also come to light. The melanic form depicted in the second image (ab. sticheli) is of the moth taken at Far Cotton in 2018 (first VC32 record).
