Distribution/Abundance:  Local

Primary Habitat:  Gardens, Woodland

Wingspan:  18-24mm

Flight Period:  June - September

Observations:  Larvae feed inside beehives, feeding on the honeycombs. Also reported to feed on dried fruit and dead insects. Adults are occasionally attracted to light, and are very twitchy - often keeping their wings moving when even slightly disturbed.

Confusion Species: 

L.O.N.:  Kettering, August 1901. Sometimes abundant in old honeycombs
