Matilella fusca

  B&F: 1451

ABH: 62.012

Status:  Vagrant/Accidental (pos. former resident)

Distribution/Abundance:  Rare

Primary Habitat:  Heathland

Wingspan:  26mm

Flight Period:  June - July

Observations:  Larvae feed on Heathers and Bilberry. The first record for VC32 comes from a former area of heathland (Castor Hanglands/Ailsworth Heath), with others from garden locations. Given the paucity of Heather in VC32 (and I believe entire lack of Bilberry), the moth is more likely to be encountered in sub-urban locations where plants are incorporated in garden situations.

Confusion Species:  Apomeylois bistriatella, Ortholepis betulae

L.O.N.:  N/A

First Record:  1991, Hillier
