Status:
Resident. Distribution
and Abundance: Local.
Primary Habitat: Woodland.
Flight Period: Single
brooded in March and April.
Observations: In
1997 a large larval web was found in a hawthorn hedge in
Warmington part of which formed the rear boundary of a
garden in which a moth trap operated. Although the trap
was run in the flight period of the moth in subsequent
years no moths were seen. Where it occurs it can be
regular in its attendance at light as evidenced by the
following records from a light trap run in a Woodnewton
garden. Viz: - 15 March 2009 - 1, 24 March 2010 - 1, 12
March 2011 - 1, 22 March 2011 - 1 and 21 March 2012 - 1.
The 2012 moth was a female and is pictured. The moth appears to have become much more widespread since around 2018, often with many sightings of larval webs being reported.
L.O.N.: Undated.
Yardley Chase, Castle Ashby.
First Record: 1859,
Sturgess.
