Distribution
and Abundance: Fairly common.
Primary Habitat: Woodland.
Flight Period: Double
brooded from May to August.
Observations: Earlier
records of this species from the first half of the last
century are exclusively of first brood moths, generally
from well-known sites for birch feeders such as, Sywell
Wood, Bangrave Wood, Wakerley Wood and Bedford Purlieus.
Second brood moths were recorded for the first time in
the 1950s and formed part of the improved catches
obtained by m.v. light traps. Although more frequently
associated with birch the species occurs commonly amongst
the alders at Barford Meadows.

Larva on alder and birch.
