  Figure of Eighty Tethea ocularis

B&F: 1654

ABH: 65.010

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in June and July.

Observations: The moth was particularly common at actinic light under poplars in the 1970’s at Grafton Park Wood. The melanic form ab. fusca shown in the photograph was taken at m.v. light on 14 June 2004 in Kettering and is generally uncommon in the county. In the past I have readily found the caterpillar spun between aspen leaves on small aspens growing along woodland rides.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
