  Small Grass Emerald Chlorissa viridata

B&F: 1670

ABH: 70.306

Status: Vagrant or Migrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Rare.

Flight Period: Recorded in June and possibly July.

Record: 23 June 2004 Wellingborough (D. Larkin).

Observations: The photograph is of the actual Wellingborough moth which was taken in a garden m.v. light trap. There is an earlier mention of this species on an old Kettering & District Natural History Society record card where a moth was recorded on 20 July 1922 at Weekley Hall Wood. Arthur Cooper has endorsed the record, “Very doubtful” on the card and, “Very doubtful identification” on the list for 1922. Having regard to more up to date knowledge on the habits of the moth that is now available as compared to eighty years ago it is possible that this was also an instance of vagrancy or migration. As identification doubts remain I have decided to disregard this earlier record.

First Record: 2004, Larkin.
