  Smoky Wave Scopula ternata

B&F: 1694

ABH: 70.026

Status: Former resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Very local.

Records: 1882 Yardley Chase (W. Hull & H. Tomalin), Pre 1960 Castor Hanglands (B. R. C.) and 2 July 1954 Peterborough (H. Tebbs).

Observations: The Yardley Chase record, along with those of other heather feeding species, shows that in the past heather grew on the site. The Castor Hanglands record appears on a completed Biological Records Centre card marked, “All records Castor Hanglands N. N. R.” The card could have been completed by English Nature as it seems to be a summary taken from a reserve file; presumably the record dates from the early days when heather grew on the Hanglands. The Peterborough record appears to be from a garden light trap. H. F. Tebbs was a very experienced recorder who worked the Peterborough area extensively in the middle years of the last century.

L.O.N.: Unrecorded.

First Record: 1882, Yardley Chase, Hull & Tomalin.
