Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Local.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in July.

Localities: Hazelborough Forest, Horn Wood, Geddington Chase and Castor Hanglands.

Observations: This species is similar in appearance to its congener the Riband Wave (I. Aversata) but is much less common and has a shorter flight period. The Fineshade Rothamsted light trap running in woodland for seven years in the 1990’s provides evidence of this. Viz:-
Plain Wave:   Overall flight period 5 July to 23 July, moths recorded - 4.
Riband Wave:  Overall flight period 8 June to 1 September, moths recorded - 430.

L.O.N.: 1907. Near Brigstock. Only twice.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
