Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Gardens.

Flight Period: Continuously brooded from April to October.

Observations:Although much more plentiful in gardens where presumably its food sources are increased by garden plants the species also occurs in woodland. The Fineshade Rothamsted light trap returns for seven years in the 1990’s show an annual average of five moths with an overall flight period from 7 May to 6 September. Melanic forms occur occasionally.
