Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in April and May.

Observations: Information on the flight period and abundance of the moth in the 1990’s is provided by the woodland Fineshade Rothamsted light trap as follows:-
1993,   7 April to 19 May -   7,
1994, 19 April to 15 May -   9,
1995, 10 April to 31 May - 15,
1996, 23 April to   9 June -   8,
1997, 31 March to 1 May -   8,
1998,   8 April to 23 April -   5,
1999, 23 April to  13 May -   7.
Melanic aberrations do not seem to occur in Northamptonshire, but intermediates between the typical form and ab. porrittii have been noted.
