  Devon Carpet Lampropteryx otregiata

B&F: 1751

ABH: 70.140

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Rare.

Primary Habitat: Wetland and wet woodland

Flight Period: Double-brooded in May and again August/early September.

Record: 29th August 2005, Kingsthorpe (P. Sharpe); 19th May 2014, Yardley Chase (P. Sharpe); 28th August 2015, Bucknell Woods (J. Skinner et al).

Observations: The first example of this species was taken in a garden light trap near to the River Nene. Although marsh bedstraw, the larval food plant, was found growing nearby, there was a strong possibility that the moth was a vagrant. Nearly ten years elapsed before a second example was noted, that of a singleton at Yardley Chase in May 2014, giving hope that the species was becoming resident. A record of five individuals in Bucknell Woods on a group field trip in August 2015 provides a strong indication that the moth is indeed now resident in the county.

First Record: 2005, Sharpe.
