Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Double brooded from May to October.

Observations: Up to date flight period and abundance between the broods is provided by the 2009 data from the static Pitsford Water light traps. The overall flight period was from 9 May to 6 November. Difficult to separate from Spruce Carpet. Compared to Spruce Carpet it is usually light red-brown to dark brown rather than grey and is more lightly fluted narrowing dorsally, however, this can vary considerably. Most reliable feature is to examine the male antennae under a good lens.
Number of moths recorded, 1st brood thirty-six, May - 16, June - 20.
2nd brood twenty-nine, September - 17, October - 11 and November - 1.
