Status: Resident. 

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Double brooded from May to November.

Observations: The species has increased its distribution with the planting of spruce within the county. Both the Pitsford Water light traps and the Fineshade Rothamsted trap show the second brood moths to be more plentiful at light than those of the first brood. Can be hard to distinguish from Grey Pine Carpet, but is usually bolder and greyer in appearance, appearing more variegated with the median band more fluted and normally edged narrowly with white. Most reliable feature is to examine the male antennae under a good lens.. At Pitsford in the four years to 2002 only 15 first brood moths were seen in a total of 124. This pattern was repeated at Fineshade where in the years 1993 to 1999 first brood moths were only seen in 1998. The overall flight period of the two broods of the moth at Fineshade was 6 May to 16 November.
