  The Fern Horisme tersata

B&F: 1782

ABH: 70.127

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Local.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded from June to August.

Localities: Salcey Forest, Blatherwycke Lake, Fineshade and Bedford Purlieus.

Observations: In my experience the moth is usually seen in small numbers at light and most plentifully on the limestone in north Northants. The only occasion that I have seen it more commonly was on 5 July 1987 at Castor Hanglands when an m.v. light trap was run alongside a large growth of its foodplant, traveller’s-joy. Irregular light trap records from Old Sulehay Reserve show that in the seven years to 2008 an annual average of seven moths were seen with a high of fifteen in 2004. Of these ten were recorded in Sulehay Forest and five were from Ring Haw.

L.O.N.: 1907. Nr. Oundle. Local.

First Record: 1902, Victoria County History.
