  Cloaked Pug Eupithecia abietaria

B&F: 1815

ABH: 70.149

Status: Unknown

Distribution and Abundance: Rare

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in June and July.

Records: 18 July 1988 Yardley Chase (G. Higgs), 17 June 1988 Salcey Forest (B. Elliott), and 19 July 1991 Geddington Chase (J. Ward), 1 July 2021 Northampton (S. Mundy).

Observations: There were several Geddington Chase records in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s indicating the presence of a resident colony on the site at that time. All of the moths were taken in the vicinity of Norway spruce. Subsequent light trapping during the flight period has failed to produce more moths and no larvae were found in collected spruce cones. As these conifers are distributed extensively throughout the woodland the searches for both moth and larvae were necessarily very limited.

First Record: Pre 1961, Castor Hanglands, Pilcher.
