Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Gardens.

Flight Period: Single brooded in June and July.

Observations: Returns from the Fineshade Rothamsted light trap running in woodland for seven years in the 1990’s produced the following information:-
Number of moths recorded 134.
Proportion of melanic moths 20%.
Overall flight period 8 June to 4 August.
A full range of  melanic forms appear to occur within the county.
