  The Streak Chesias legatella

B&F: 1864

ABH: 70.195

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Local.

Primary Habitat: Gardens.

Flight Period: Single brooded in October.

Localities: Bozeat, Harlestone Heath, Pitsford Reservoir and Boughton Park.

Observations: Until recently there were few records for this species. From the early 1990’s a major range expansion seems to have set in with moths mainly being recorded in garden traps over a wide area, presumably indicating an increased spread and colonisation amongst garden broom bushes. There is a large resident population on Brampton golf course and in the adjoining Harlestone Firs where the moth was particularly common sitting on the brooms after dark in October 1996. Having regard to its strength this colony has probably been present for many years and overlooked by earlier recorders.

L.O.N.: 1904. Whittlebury.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
