  The Seraphim Lobophora halterata

B&F: 1879

ABH: 70.198

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Rather local.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in May and June.

Localities: Salcey Forest, Horn Wood, Rushton Hall School grounds and Borough Fen Decoy.

Observations: Although the species is found amongst poplars it is more plentiful in the county where mature aspens occur. Due to the moths’ habit of resting conspicuously on tree trunks, it is sometimes easy to find as on 20 May 1996 at Brampton Wood where several were observed resting on the large old aspens on the edge of the woodland.
