  Peacock Moth Macaria notata

B&F: 1889

ABH: 70.211

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Scarce.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Double brooded from May to August.

Records: 6 June 1992 Hazelborough Forest (P. Tebbutt), 16 August 2006 Ring Haw (R. Follows), 12 August 1995 Whitewater Reservoir (J. Ward) and 20 August 1993 Castor Hanglands (M. Hillier).

Observations: Apart from the Whitewater Reservoir record the moths were taken at m.v. light. As the moth is not strongly attracted to light there is a probability that the species could occur elsewhere in the county where its food plant birch is more established than at the above sites.

Confusion Species: Sharp-angled Peacock

First Record: 1960, Gent.
