  Rannoch Looper Macaria brunneata

B&F: 1896

ABH: 70.217

Status: Migrant

Distribution and Abundance: Rare migrant

Primary Habitat: General

Flight Period: June - July

Observations: Aside from the known resident populations in Central Scotland, the moth is encountered in England as a primary migrant. There is some evidence however to suggest that the species might be establishing colonies in the South-east of England, given an increase in recent records in that area. The larvae feed on Bilberry. 2023 saw a huge dispersal event from The Continent, with adults being recorded to light all over central and Eastern Britain, including several recorded in VC32.
