brooded in August and September.
Observations: This
moth has the most extended emergence period of any of the
autumn flying thorns, sometimes appearing as early as the
third week in July with stragglers still on the wing
in early October. It seems to prefer woodland edges and
was particularly common at light along the edge of
Glendon Wood in 1983. In the decade to 2009 the static
Pitsford Water light traps show considerable variation in
the number of moths captured. The average catch was
fifty-nine with a low of fourteen and a high of one
hundred and thirty-two.
