brooded in March and April and again in July and August.
Observations: Returns
from the Pitsford Water m.v. light traps for the five
years 1999 - 2003 show the summer brood moths to be three
times more plentiful overall at the traps than those of
the spring brood. Viz:-
1999 spring brood 4 summer brood 10,
2000 spring brood 0 summer brood 16,
2001 spring brood 3 summer brood 11,
2002 spring brood 8 summer brood 8,
2003 spring brood 3 summer brood 9.
Totals: spring brood - 18, summer brood 54.
Although present in some midland counties, melanics do
not seem to occur in Northamptonshire.
