Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in February and March.

Observations: The woodland Rothamsted light trap returned an average of seven moths annually for the 1990’s with an overall flight period from 2 February to 10 April. A recently emerged wingless female was found on 7 January 1989 in a Gradwell trap left over winter at Geddington Chase. Melanics occur fairly commonly.
