Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Scrub.

Flight Period: Single brooded in January and February.

Observations: The moth sometimes flies in low temperatures. It was very common in and around an m.v. light trap left overnight on 29 January 1993 at Kirtley Coppice despite the night being frosty. On this occasion the trap was run fairly near to a large old blackthorn hedge. Generally I have found the species to be more plentiful around blackthorn rather than hawthorns. The wingless female was occasional in Gradwell traps left out at Geddington Chase in the 1980’s.
