B&F: 1973

ABH: 69.005

Status: Migrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Scarce.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Most records of the moth are in the summer months.

Records: 6 September 1982 (larva) Deanshanger (D. Brown), 5 September 2003 Syresham (D. Jeacock), 29 September 1986 (larva) Broughton (B. Adams) and 21 August 2003 (larva) Brigstock (J. Ward).

Observations: Over the years the caterpillar has been more frequently encountered than the moth. These have usually been found in potato fields, but in early September 1991 five larvae were found feeding on woody nightshade at a sawmill in King’s Cliffe. Migration of the species in the year 2003 was above average in that moths larva and pupa were found.

L.O.N.: 1908. Little Billing, Kettering. Uncommon, but occasionally the larvae have been found in considerable numbers.

First Record: 1858, Green.
