  White Satin Moth Leucoma salicis

B&F: 2031

ABH: 72.009

Status:  Resident and Migrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Rather local.

Primary Habitat:  Woodland.

Flight Period:  Single brooded in July and August.

Localities: Hazelborough Forest, Old Pastures, Barford Meadows and Geddington Chase.

Observations: The moth was very common in a garden m.v. light trap run in Woodnewton during 2009 when one hundred and seventy-five examples were recorded. This contrasts sharply with the Pitsford Water figure of thirty-five moths for the same year. In the 1930’s the moth was found to be well established in a row of old poplars in a Kettering park. The mature caterpillars used to be recorded annually resting in crevices in the bark of the trees in June.

L.O.N.:  1907. Many localities. Irregular. Sometimes abundant.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
