  Dingy Footman Eilema griseola

B&F: 2044

ABH: 72.044

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Wetland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in July and August.

Observations: The pale form stramineola occurs with varying frequency. It has not been noted from all localities, but I have seen it at Hazelborough Wood, Geddington Chase, Ashton Wold and Castor Hanglands. In the 1990’s in Geddington chase it seemed to form about a fifth of the population. The species has become much more common over the past few years with large numbers attracted to light in well worked localities. With 470 moths recorded in 2009 it was exceptionally plentiful in the Pitsford Water light traps. In the past I have found the caterpillar conspicuously feeding on lichens in damp places.

L.O.N.: 1907. Many localities. Pale variety fairly common.

First Record: 1858, Green.
