Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Rather local.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in May and June.

Localities: Bucknell Wood, Horn Wood, Rockingham Park and Castor Hanglands.

Observations: The moth was plentiful at m.v. light on 16 May 1987 at Yardley Chase with some fifty examples being seen. It was also common in the 1970’s resting in its characteristic pose of head downwards on the lime tree trunks on the old lime avenues near to Warkton. In an analysis of the catches at the Pitsford Water static light traps for the decade to 2010 an average of eight moths were recorded each year with a high of twenty-seven in 2001 and a low of one in 2007 indicating that the species fluctuates considerably in abundance.

L.O.N.: 1907. Yardley Chase, Weedon, Geddington Chase and Weekley Hall Wood. Fairly common on tree trunks.
