  Crescent Dart Agrotis trux

B&F: 2090

ABH: 73.324

Status: Probable vagrant - usually coastal.

Record: 28th June 1945 Hardwick Wood (F. Adams); 24th July 2024, Pitsford Reservoir (Cross, M.).

Observations: This species is best known from coastal locations in the south of the UK, where it inhabits rocky cliffs. The 1945 moth was taken at sugar and although clearly an unusual record of an essentially coastal species Frank Adams was an extremely reliable and experienced recorder. This remained the only record in VC32 until one was taken to light at Pitsford Reservoir on 24th July 2024 (lower image opposite). Interestingly, neighbouring VC55/Leicestershire had its first county record of this species on 22nd July - possibly indicating a small disperal event.

First Record: 1945, Adams.

L.O.N.: Vict. Hist.
