Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Very common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Double brooded from May to October.

Observations: Useful data on current flight period and abundance is provided by the three years Pitsford Water light trap records from 2000 to 2002. Viz:-
2000. Date of first record 8 May 2000, date of last record 15 October 2000. Numbers recorded monthly, May 15, June 51, July 34, August 256, September 17 and October 1. Total recorded. 374.
2001. Date of first record 25 May 2001, date of last record 11 October 2001. Numbers recorded monthly, May 6, June 64, July 70, August 199, September 6 and October 1. Total recorded 346.
2002. Date of first record 24 April 2002, date of last record 6 September 2002. Numbers recorded monthly, April 1, May 55, June 123, July 38, August 263 and September 8. Total recorded 488.
As an incidental observation, this moth has a reputation for entering the ear of persons standing around light traps thereby causing great discomfort. From my experience this reputation
is fully justified.
