  Dotted Rustic Rhyacia simulans

B&F: 2105

ABH: 73.339

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Rare.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Single brooded from July to September.

Records: 5 September 2004 Wellingborough (D. Larkin), 20 July 2001 Kelmarsh Lake (J. Ward), 2001 Long Buckby (R. Vandersteen) and 25 June 1994 Rushden (M. Hammond).

Observations: The first Northamptonshire record for the species was of a dead moth found in the radiator grill of my car. As I was obliged to spend a great deal of time looking under the bonnet of this particular vehicle I was able to deduce from where the moth had originated. Within a few years the species was common in the county and I used to see several in an evening feeding at my garden buddleias. This continued until 1991 when it then became much less frequent with most subsequent years producing no sightings.

First Record: 1973, Geddington, Ward,
