Status: Resident and migrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Very common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Single brooded flying from June to October, peaking in August, probably reinforced by migration in late summer.

Observations: Although variable in abundance, over the years the species has always been very common. For the three years from 2007 to 2009 it was the most plentiful species at Pitsford Water where the two static m.v. light trap returns show the following numbers of moths: 2007 - 2,374, 2008 - 3,583 and 2009 - 3,919. By comparison, a single 80 watt light trap run in a Wellingborough garden fifty years ago in 1951 attracted 840 moths in the season.
