Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded from July to September.

Observations: The moth varies considerably in abundance as demonstrated by the following annual catches at the Pitsford Water light traps for the decade to 2009. Viz:-  2000 - 57, 2001 - 12, 2002 - 20, 2003 - 68, 2004 - 43, 2005 - 39, 2006 - 144, 2007 - 14, 2008 - 75 and 2009 - 152. Several caterpillars were found feeding on the opening buds of hawthorn and blackthorn in the spring of 1979 at Pottedbrig Spinney.

L.O.N.: 1906. Near Kettering, Cliffe, Northampton etc. Not common.
