  Small Square-spot Diarsia rubi

B&F: 2123

ABH: 73.334

Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Double brooded from May to September.

Observations: The species can be very common as shown by returns from the Pitsford Water light traps as follows:-
Year    Moths         First Date             Last Date
2000     1371            19 May               4 October
2001     1702            23 May              29 September
2002       804            16 May              25 September
Over these three years around two thirds of the moths were seen in the month of August. A comparison between the first and last dates of recording above and those from a garden light trap running in Wellingborough for a similar period in the 1950’s show the moths now appearing some nine days earlier and finishing at about the same time.

L.O.N.: 1907. Many localities. Common at light.

First Record: 1902, Victoria County History.
