Distribution and
Abundance: Very common.
Primary Habitat: General
occurrence.
Flight Period: Recorded
in all months from May to October, but much more
plentifully in late summer and the autumn.
Observations: Generally a very common species, however annual
abundance varies greatly. Pitsford Water light trap
records for the year 2003 show 2220 examples attracted to
the two static traps, of these, 2156 (97%) occurred in
August, September and October. For the year 2001 the
figures were 295 and 252 (84%) respectively. Fifty years
ago a single light trap operating in a Wellingborough
garden in 1951 produced 3266 moths overall, with an
August to October tally of 3152 (97%).
